About the Event

INTERWOVEN celebrates, through music and performance, the rich heritage of North Kirklees’ shoddy and mungo textile industry and its connections to present day environmental issues in the modern textile industry.

Join us at Dewsbury Minster on Friday 6 May from 7.30pm to hear the INTERWOVEN Ensemble – tabla and harmonium, brass from Hanson Arts, with folk singers Ruth and Sadie Price – perform the premier of Round and Around: The Story of Shoddy in Song, written especially for the project and inspired by the textile industry stories of local people. It will bring together and celebrate the diverse cultural and musical landscape that has developed in Kirklees as a result of the people who have worked in its textile industry.

My work Lōka, which is about Bengali workers who migrated from rural Bangladesh and India to work in the factories and mills of the UK in the 1950s, will play as an introduction to the concert as the audience enter the venue.
